Educational Visits and Visitor
We believe that learning in the Early Years should be rooted in first hand experiences and strive to ensure that our children flourish in environments that develop cultural capital and life experiences. To that end, we maximise the use or our minibuses and ensure that their experiences support their learning with trips to Grove Farm Pick Your Own, Thrift Open Farm, MK Springers gymnastic club, local supermarkets, the library, local villages, post offices, Aylesbury Fire station, Pizza Express, the MK Art Gallery and regular visits to Pages park in Leighton Buzzard, as well as drawing on visitors to bring experience to the classroom. Whether it's a vet, a local scientist, the Exploradome or a string quartet, we've welcomed them all to enhance our learning.
Key Stage 1 children also have the opportunity to attend Science fairs and sport festivals held at local secondary schools, as well as trips to Waddesdon Manor, the Buckinghamshire Railway centre at Quainton, Windsor castle, Tring Natural History Museum, Verulamium museum and Hatfield House to supplement their topic learning.
Key Stage 2 enjoy a variety of trips and visits to enhance their learning, including; Eton College, the Natural History Museum, the National Space Centre, the Living Rainforest, Holdenby House, RAF Halton, the Chiltern Open-Air museum and the Ashmolean museum.
Traditionally at Christmas, all Three Schools enjoy a visit to the Pantomime at either Milton Keynes or Aylesbury.
In addition to our topic-based educational visits, we have a rolling programme of residential and "more substantial" day trips for each year group at Swanbourne throughout Key Stage 2 these are as follows:
Year 3 - In the summer term Year 3 undertake a one day outdoor adventure experience which has in recent years been held at the Caldecotte "Xperience" in Milton Keynes, including activities such as the climbing wall, high ropes course and water sport team building activities, such as raft making or sailing.
Year 4 - In the Summer term Year 4 are offered a two night residential, Woodrow High House in Amersham including a range of outdoor activities and educational experiences.
Year 6 - Year 6 is a busy year for the children with the 11+ in September and SATs in May, so in the Summer term they are offered a 5 day residential trip to Devon to participate in a range of outside experiences including surfing, coasteering, bodyboarding, archery, climbing, abseiling, rafting, high ropes and coastal walking.
More details of each residential follow in July before the trip in order for parents to plan ahead and begin a payment plan.
