Swanbourne - Year 5
Welcome to Year 5, where we work hard whilst having fun, try our best and always remember the importance of our growth mindset. We reinforce the school Christian values through our daily interactions and support each other in our learning, working together as a class team.
Mrs Mailer is our class teachers supported by Mrs Roberts and Mrs Grimes who are our teaching assistants. They support us in all that we do, encouraging us to become independent learners.
We enjoy studying some really exciting history topics. Our main ones being The Greeks, The Victorians and World War Two. Our longer fiction texts in English tie in with these topics. During the year, we plan to undertake visits to: Eton College, which linked to our Greek studies; Holdenby House and Milton Keynes Museum, where the theme is Victorians and RAF Halton to learn about life during World War Two.
In Science, some of our main topics are Forces, Earth in Space and Materials. We enjoy practical investigations during our topics, which develop our Working Scientifically skills. In Maths we follow the same topic areas as in previous years but build our knowledge and confidence, working with numbers up to one million.
We are very lucky in Year 5 to all have the opportunity to learn to play a brass instrument. All children play either a cornet, trombone or euphonium with our amazing brass teacher.
Year 5 is: Engaging, Challenging and Caring.
