• The Three Schools shine in the first weeks back!

  The Three Schools celebrated the beginning of a new school year with Shine Day!

   

  The children across Kingfishers and all Three Schools enjoyed focusing on our school values of Love, Honesty, Respect and Forgiveness.

  
  Each class explored what one of these values means to them through a story and reflected on how they can show this value at school and in the wider community. Super art work was created as well as some excellent pieces of writing and drama.

  
  The children looked brilliant in their bright, shiny clothes and had some great ideas about how they are going to ‘SHINE’ in the year ahead.

  

• Cross Country fun for KS2!

  On Saturday 20th April, 32 pupils from Swanbourne took part in the Aylesbury Vale Primary School Cross Country Championship, at Ascott House.

   

  There were four races (Year 3 & 4 girls, Year 3 & 4 boys, Year 5 & Year 6 girls and Year 5 & 6 boys) and we were able to field a team in all races.

   

  With almost 100 runners in the Year 3 & 4 races and 70 in the Year 5 & 6 races our children did incredibly well. What is more, there were so many smiles and laughs mixed in with the huffing and puffing. All of the children should be very proud of their efforts, as everyone gave their all.

   

  Our girls’ team managed to finish in 4th place overall, our boys were 5th and as a school we were an amazing 3rd place in the overall championship!

   

  This was the first time that Swanbourne has taken part in this event, but we are hoping to now make it part of our sporting calendar. Thank you to all of the parents and families for supporting the children - it made for a lovely atmosphere.

• Drayton Parslow enjoys beautiful pond area

  Huge thanks to Mrs Venturi for her hard work and commitment to give the pond area at Drayton Parslow a new lease of life.

  
  After pressure washing the patio slabs, installing a mini border, adding more stones and some bark chippings, we now have a wonderful pond area ready for Science lessons as well as giving a new home to some local mini-beasts and amphibians.

  
  Mrs Venturi was delighted to see a frog had already decided to move into the pond area only hours after the improvements were made.

• Mursley's Library gets a make over

  Enormous thanks went to Mrs Rouse and Mrs Wilson for giving up 2 days of their Easter holidays to decorate and reorganise the library at Mursley.

  
  Thanks to their hard work the library just looks AMAZING – Mrs Rouse’s vision and colour matching really works making the space feel much more connected and calm and not to mention rather a lot cleaner!

  
  Special thanks to Bethan D (Year 6) and Nansi D (Year 4) for working so hard to order, categorise, removing duplicates and worn out book then sticker and re-shelve the entire library!

  
  Thank you again ladies for your hard work and time for these wonderful improvements.

  

• Year 1 visit Windsor Castle

  In March Year 1 had an actioned packed day at Windsor Castle. We had a look around St George’s chapel to see where previous Kings and Queens were buried, including Queen Elizabeth ll and Henry Vlll.

  
  We were then lucky enough to watch the changing of the guard with the Irish Guard’s regiment accompanying on drums and bagpipes. Next it was off to see the King’s state apartments and give him a wave as children noticed the royal standard flying on top of the castle!

  
  The children attended a workshop all about King Charles, where the children were knighted, coronated and even had a dress inspection. Inside the castle, children were able to see Queen Mary’s doll’s house and spot a famous painting of King Charles l. They were also excited to see the
  very grand banqueting hall and throne room. The children were beautifully behaved, interested in everything and were very knowledgeable about all things royal.

• KS2 Harvest Festival at St Swithun’s

  Thank you so much to parents, carers and family members for joining us
  at the KS2 Harvest Festival services at St Swithun’s church.

   

  The children did an amazing job to celebrate Harvest time with some beautiful singing, reading and prayers.

   

  Thank you for all your generosity in providing an amazing amount of donations to support the Milton Keynes Foodbank to help those in our community who are in need.
   

  

• EYFS enjoy a trip to the gym

  EYFS have been learning all about different ways to keep our bodies healthy and we spent a very energetic morning at Harlequin Gym last Friday!

   

  We enjoyed practising lots of physical skills - running, balancing, climbing and even forward and backward rolls!

   

  Everyone listened carefully to instructions and behaved beautifully. It was our first school visit and we were very proud to take them out.

• Election fever hits Swanbourne

  Once again, Year 6 pupils have had the opportunity to put themselves forward as a candidate for House Captain, Vice House Captain, Sports Captain and Vice Sports Captain. The aim is that the children taking these roles will be ambassadors for our school. They will work alongside the Junior Leadership Team (JLT) and staff to represent the school, on a day to day basis and at events we attend.

  
  The children in Year 6 were all given the opportunity to stand for these roles and we had several willing candidates who put themselves forward, each presented a speech to the KS2 children as to why they would be the best person for the job. They all spoke with confidence and enthusiasm and presented a strong argument as to why they should be selected. Each of the KS2 children then had a vote for House Captain and Sports Captain and the staff all voted as well.

  
  The votes were very close, congratulations to our new House and Sports Captains and Vice Captains.

• No room for Racism Workshops – KS2 workshops with MK Dons

  On Friday 15th September 2023, Charlie from the MK Dons SET came into Swanbourne CE School and delivered a ‘No room for racism’ workshop to all KS2 pupils in their classrooms.

  
  Charlie shared with us how badly racism can affect someone and shared some examples of how children have suffered racist comments, attitudes and language from their classmates, older children and adults.

  
  We were able to discuss how it would feel to be bullied or upset by someone and their racist behaviour, just because of the way we look, speak or our family background.

  
  We were able to come up with some very emotive words to show how we would feel if we were treated in this way, we thought of the following;
  • Depressed
  • Annoyed
  • Alienated
  • Exasperated
  • Livid
  • Angry
  • Lonely
  • Isolated

  
  We had some very interesting discussions surrounding what it would feel like to be excluded just because of your race. We also shared ideas on what we felt we could do to support and help someone who experienced this and why we should do this.

  
  Charlie’s presentation was very powerful, it made us think and remember that if we don’t share or worries and experiences with a trusted adult, things can get even worse.

  
  We would like to thank Charlie and MK Dons SET for the workshop, it was incredibly interesting and really made us think and reflect on our own behaviours and the behaviours of others. We all want to ‘be the change;’ and end racism!

  
  We are looking forward to taking part in the Show Racism the Red Card art and writing competitions this year!
